Save Our Mangroves Now

I work as an otter conservationist to reverse the decline of mangrove habitats in Vietnam and across the globe to restore biodiversity, protect livelihoods, and mitigate against the impacts of the climate  crisis. Why mangroves matter - Superheroes of biodiversity Survival artists, nature’s kindergarten, climate savers – mangroves are versatile superheroes. They are habitat and nursery for over 3000 fish species, can store 3 to 5 times more carbon per area than tropical upland forests, and provide livelihoods for over 120 million people. But this unique ecosystem is under threat: more than a third of all mangrove forests have disappeared since the mid-20th century due to agriculture, logging, and urbanization. Mẹo chăm sóc khu vườn vào mùa đông

Thời tiết trở lạnh, hanh khô vào mùa đông đã khiến cho cây cối trong vườn dễ bị rụng lá, trơ chọi. Nhiều loại rau, hoa quả không chịu được sương giá dễ bị héo úa, gây ảnh hưởng lớn đến nguồn cung cấp thực phẩm sạch cho gia đình. Việc thực hiện chăm sóc cây đúng cách sẽ giúp sân vườn luôn tràn ngập màu xanh, cây cối phát triển tươi tốt, đảm bảo được lượng thực phẩm sử dụng trong mùa đông. 

Đảm bảo ánh sáng cho cây trong sân vườn

Vào mùa đông thường ngắn hơn đêm, khiến cho nhiều cây ưa nắng ít được tiếp xúc với ánh sáng mặt trời. Ánh sáng đóng vai trò cần thiết trong việc giúp cây quang hợp và cung cấp các dưỡng chất để chống lại sâu bệnh. Trước khi mùa đông đến chúng ta cần cắt tỉa dọn sạch sẽ các nhánh cây cao, tránh để cành lá um tùm che khuất hướng ánh sáng chiếu vào khu vườn.

Tưới nước đầy đủ cho cây

Ngoài ánh sáng thì việc cung cấp độ ẩm cho cây là yếu tố quan trọng, giúp cây sinh trưởng tốt để chống lại thời tiết giá rét, khô lạnh. Mùa đông ở miền Bắc thường rất hanh khô đã tạo điều kiện cho sâu bệnh phá hoại khiến cây cối càng trở nên cằn cọc và chậm phát triển, thế nên phải tưới nước thường xuyên để giúp cây lấy lại cân bằng độ ẩm.

Bón phân định kỳ cho cây

Việc bón phân định kỳ trong suốt mùa đông sẽ giúp cây cối, hoa lá trong vườn tràn trề sức sống, chống chọi các loại sâu bệnh và thời tiết khắc nghiệt. Khi rễ cây được nuôi dưỡng khỏe manh đầy đủ dinh dưỡng thì toàn bộ thân cành lá đều phát triển tươi tốt.

Chăm sóc cây cối là một trải nghiệm tuyệt vời không chỉ giúp chúng ta thư giãn, tiếp xúc với thiên nhiên mà còn làm cho khu vườn ngày càng trở nên xinh đẹp xanh tươi.

Vietnam’s Coral Reefs Are Dying

Coral reefs around the world have been seriously degraded over the past 20 years and Vietnam’s are no exception. These ecosystems, which are vital to sustaining oceanic biodiversity, are very sensitive to changing ocean temperatures and destructive human activities. Experts warn that within 20 years, Vietnam may not have any left. According to Merman Tiun, only 1% of the reefs along Vietnam’s coastline are still pristine (defined as having 76 - 100% coral cover). 31% are in “poor condition” (defined as having 0 – 10% coral cover).“Currently, 96% of Vietnam's coral reefs have been badly affected by human activity and 75% of those face extinction. In recent years, fishermen in Danang have used upgraded nets, causing tremendous damage to coastal reefs. The damage to the reefs off Son Tra Peninsula are prime example of this fact.
