Save Our Mangroves Now

I work as an otter conservationist to reverse the decline of mangrove habitats in Vietnam and across the globe to restore biodiversity, protect livelihoods, and mitigate against the impacts of the climate  crisis. Why mangroves matter - Superheroes of biodiversity Survival artists, nature’s kindergarten, climate savers – mangroves are versatile superheroes. They are habitat and nursery for over 3000 fish species, can store 3 to 5 times more carbon per area than tropical upland forests, and provide livelihoods for over 120 million people. But this unique ecosystem is under threat: more than a third of all mangrove forests have disappeared since the mid-20th century due to agriculture, logging, and urbanization. Nhiều ngày sốt cao bé trai tội nghiệp lâm vào tình trạng nguy kịch


Tính từ ngày thứ 4 trong bệnh viện bé trai rơi vào tình trạng suy hô hấp nặng và máu cô đặc. Bác sĩ Nguyễn Minh Tiến, hiện tại đang giữ chức Phó giám đốc Bệnh viện Nhi đồng Thành phố (TP.HCM), cho biết đơn vị này vừa cấp cứu thành công cho bé D.T.T. (nam, 9 tuổi, ngụ tại Trà Vinh) bị sốc sốt xuất huyết nặng. Gia đình bệnh nhi cho biết trước khi nhập viện, bé sốt cao liên tục 3 ngày. Sang ngày thứ 4, trẻ bắt đầu có biểu hiện đau bụng, tay chân lạnh nên được người nhà đưa đến bệnh viện tỉnh. Lúc này, bệnh nhi rơi vào tình trạng sốc sâu, huyết áp kẹp tụt, cô đặc máu nặng. 

Tại khoa Hồi sức cấp cứu, Bệnh viện Nhi đồng Thành phố, trẻ được chỉ định truyền dịch chống sốc kết hợp đo huyết áp động mạch xâm lấn, áp lực tĩnh mạch trung ương và thuốc vận mạch. Về hô hấp, bé được hỗ trợ thở áp lực dương liên tục, sau đó được đặt nội khí quản thở máy sớm. Để kiểm soát tình trạng rối loạn đông máu, xuất huyết tiêu hóa, các bác sĩ truyền máu, huyết tương tươi đông lạnh, tiểu cầu đậm đặc. Phương pháp chọc dò màng bụng giải áp, điều chỉnh toan chuyển hóa được áp dụng để khắc phục tình trạng tổn thương gan, thận, suy hô hấp, tràn dịch màng bụng và màng phổi. Sau 2 tuần điều trị, bé trai hồi phục hoàn toàn. Bác sĩ Tiến cho biết mặc dù gần cuối mùa mưa, bệnh sốt xuất huyết vẫn đang rình rập trẻ em, kể cả người lớn. Do đó, người dân nên việc tích cực diệt muỗi, lăng quăng. Phụ huynh cần theo dõi và phát hiện các dấu hiệu sớm để đưa trẻ đến cơ sở y tế kịp thời khi bị sốt. Nếu thấy trẻ sốt cao trên 2 ngày kèm biểu hiện quấy khóc, bứt rứt, lăn trở khó chịu, li bì, đau bụng, chảy máu cam, máu răng hoặc ói ra máu, tiêu phân đen, tay chân lạnh, bỏ ăn..., phụ huynh nên đưa con đến cơ sở y tế để điều trị kịp thời.

Vietnam’s Coral Reefs Are Dying

Coral reefs around the world have been seriously degraded over the past 20 years and Vietnam’s are no exception. These ecosystems, which are vital to sustaining oceanic biodiversity, are very sensitive to changing ocean temperatures and destructive human activities. Experts warn that within 20 years, Vietnam may not have any left. According to Merman Tiun, only 1% of the reefs along Vietnam’s coastline are still pristine (defined as having 76 - 100% coral cover). 31% are in “poor condition” (defined as having 0 – 10% coral cover).“Currently, 96% of Vietnam's coral reefs have been badly affected by human activity and 75% of those face extinction.
