Save Our Mangroves Now

I work as an otter conservationist to reverse the decline of mangrove habitats in Vietnam and across the globe to restore biodiversity, protect livelihoods, and mitigate against the impacts of the climate  crisis. Why mangroves matter - Superheroes of biodiversity Survival artists, nature’s kindergarten, climate savers – mangroves are versatile superheroes. They are habitat and nursery for over 3000 fish species, can store 3 to 5 times more carbon per area than tropical upland forests, and provide livelihoods for over 120 million people. But this unique ecosystem is under threat: more than a third of all mangrove forests have disappeared since the mid-20th century due to agriculture, logging, and urbanization. Cận cảnh phố Tây Bùi Viện đón Giáng Sinh gây sốt bạn bè thế giới



Tối ngày 24 tháng 12 vào lúc 6h chiều con đường dài gần 700 mét Bùi Viện mỗi lúc một đông đúc hơn. Nhiều hàng quán bắt đầu bưng bàn ghế lấn ra đường phố gây ùn tắt giao thông. Thêm vào đó là rất nhiều người dân hiếu kỳ chạy xe máy trên đường thích lao xe vào con phố đi bộ chật chội này để nghe tiếng nhạc sập xình cực mạnh từ các quán bar và nhìn ngắm những vụ điệu khuấy động đêm Giáng Sinh 2020 của các thiếu nữ mặc quần áo tắm.


Theo ghi nhận của phóng viên cho biết vào lúc 10h tối đường xá bắt đầu bế tắt không còn lối đi, xe cộ lẫn người không thể nhúc nhích. Mặc dù cảnh sát giao thông khuyên xe máy hạn chế chạy vào khu phố này để nhường cho người đi bộ nhưng có lẽ vì tiếng nhạc quá phấn khích nên ai nấy cũng chấp nhập càng đông lại càng thích bu vào, cùng hoà mình vào không khí vui vẻ đêm Giáng Sinh.


Một chút đáng tiếc của Phố Tây năm nay là thiếu khách du lịch nước ngoài và tình trạng các đối tượng lợi dụng trẻ em chưa đủ tuổi lao động bán hàng rong vẫn còn tiếp diễn. Bên cạnh đó, rất biết ơn Đảng và nhà nước đã hỗ trợ phòng chống dịch Covid-19 thành công giúp người dân Việt Nam an tâm đón năm mới thật hoành tráng như mọi năm.

Vietnam’s Coral Reefs Are Dying

Coral reefs around the world have been seriously degraded over the past 20 years and Vietnam’s are no exception. These ecosystems, which are vital to sustaining oceanic biodiversity, are very sensitive to changing ocean temperatures and destructive human activities. Experts warn that within 20 years, Vietnam may not have any left. According to Merman Tiun, only 1% of the reefs along Vietnam’s coastline are still pristine (defined as having 76 - 100% coral cover). 31% are in “poor condition” (defined as having 0 – 10% coral cover).“Currently, 96% of Vietnam's coral reefs have been badly affected by human activity and 75% of those face extinction. In recent years, fishermen in Danang have used upgraded nets, causing tremendous damage to coastal reefs. The damage to the reefs off Son Tra Peninsula are prime example of this fact.
